“Anne of Green Gables: The Musical” will be directed by Cailee Bywater and Rachel Bywater.
You will need to be prepared to read from the script and have a 30 – 60 second vocal selection prepared.
The roles that will be available are as follows:
Female Roles:
MARILLA CUTHBERT – Late 50s; a stern, moral, and no-nonsense spinster. She lives with her unmarried brother, Matthew. She has a wry sense of humor and is eventually affectionate toward Anne. (Mezzo-Soprano)
ANNE SHIRLEY – A young girl; red-haired and freckled; exuberant and precocious. She is scholastic and well-intentioned but has a fiery temper. (Soprano)
DIANA BARRY – Young girl; loyal, agreeable, and sweet. She is Anne’s best friend, schoolmate, and kindred spirit. Diana is an attractive girl with long black hair. (Mezzo-Soprano)
JOSIE PYE – Selfish, harsh, and scheming; Anne’s worst enemy. Josie is blonde and pretty. (Mezzo-Soprano)
MRS. RACHEL LYNDE – Early 60s; outspoken and indiscreet; the town gossip. Affectionate towards her good friend Marilla. (Mezzo-Soprano)
MS. STACY – Schoolteacher; radiates enthusiasm and a rampant desire for learning. She is a role model and mentor for Anne. (Mezzo-Soprano)
MRS. MACPHERSON – Moody MacPherson’s mother; a part of the Avonlea Ladies’ Aid.
MRS. SLOANE – Charlie Sloane’s mother; a part of the Avonlea Ladies’ Aid.
MRS. PYE – Josie and Gertie Pye’s mother; a part of the Avonlea Ladies’ Aid.
MRS. SPENCER – The woman who brought Anne to the Cuthbert’s from the orphanage.
MRS. BLEWETT – A hard woman who almost takes Anne off of Marilla’s hands.
PRISSY ANDREWS – One of Anne’s Schoolmates
RUBY GILLIS – One of Anne’s Schoolmates (Mezzo-Soprano)
TILLIE BOULTER – One of Anne’s Schoolmates (Mezzo-Soprano)
GERTIE PYE – One of Anne’s Schoolmates; Josie Pye’s sister (Alto)
LUCILLA – The store clerk (Soprano)
Male Roles:
MATTHEW CUTHBERT – Early 60s; bachelor; silver hair and grey mustache. A sweet, soft spoken farmer who works the Green Gables acreage. He lives with his sister Marilla and is painfully shy toward women. (Baritone)
GILBERT BLYTHE – Young boy; smart, handsome, and confident. Good-natured but cocky, he inadvertently becomes Anne’s adversary. (Tenor)
PHILLIPS – The Avonlea schoolteacher. (Tenor)
EARL – One of the townsfolk of Avonlea. (Baritone)
CECIL – One of the townsfolk of Avonlea. (Baritone)
MINISTER – The town minister. (Baritone)
MOODY SPURGEON MACPHERSON – One of Anne’s classmates.
TOMMY SLOANE – One of Anne’s classmates; Charlie Sloane’s brother.
CHARLIE SLOANE – One of Anne’s classmates; Tommy Sloane’s brother.
GERRY BOUTE – One of Anne’s classmates
MALCOLM ANDREWS – One of Anne’s classmates.
STATIONMASTER – The stationmaster of the train station where Matthew picks up Anne. (Baritone)
