Starting off on January 15th with an afternoon Improv workshop at the Griswold from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. This workshop will be led by Scott Fuce, who has a theatre degree from W.M.U., has studied extensively at Second City in Chicago, coaches forensics and is a M.I.F.A. certified judge and coach, teaches Improv (and other classes) at the Grand Rapids Civic Theater, and was a founding member of The Madd Hatters.
Improv is theater made up completely on the spot: no scripts, no lines and no teleprompters. But it’s not just “winging it.” Improv is being totally present in the moment. Join us for an afternoon of fun, jumping in and saying “yes…and” is half the battle. Cost for the workshop his $10 for ACP members and $20 for non-members. (Note: the $20 fee will include an individual membership good through August 31, 2017.)
February will find us at The Four Roses Cafe in Plainwell with an audience participation mystery, “Just Desserts” by Craig Sodaro produced by special arrangement with Eldridge Publishing Co. The show is Sunday February 19th and Monday February 20th. Members of the audience will enjoy one of the Four Roses delicious desserts as part of this theatrical experience.
Auditions are January 4th & 5th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Carnegie room at the Allegan District Library. The show calls for 1 Men and 4 Women, however one of the women’s parts could be cast as a man depending on who auditions. ACP member Rachel Bywater is directing with assistance from past president, Marne Sieber.
March 1st is the deadline to submit a one act play for consideration for inclusion in our Fourth Annual One Acts Festival. Plays can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. Auditions will most likely be in early April and the show will be May 19, 20 & 21 at the Griswold Auditorium.
In June, we will be holding auditions for our summer musical, “Lend Me a Tenor: The Musical” by Peter Sham & Brad Carroll, based on the Play by Ken Ludwig. Board members Emmagrace Kasprzyk and Ryan Burza will be spearheading production of this riotous tale of mistaken identity and unexpected romance. Auditions are open to anyone age 13 and up. Tentative dates for the show at the AHS Performing Arts Center are July 28 – 30.
July this year ACP is trying something new, a week-long Youth Drama Workshop. The workshop, open to anyone under 18, will be held Monday through Friday July 10th through the 14th, culminating with a performance of “Black and White Rainbow” a play with a message written by an ACP member.
Our annual membership meeting and potluck will be in August.
We are tentatively planning a repeat of our game show “The Price is Wrong ” for October 2017.
